Research & data

Publicly available information is crucial to the success of oversight and monitoring efforts by civil society organisations (CSOs). Accordingly, the Private Security Governance Observatory provides an annotated guide to research and data related to the private provision of security services.

In addition to data sources, reports produced by the states, NGOs, and global corporations that engage PMSCs provide useful insight and analysis into the industry. Many of these reports explore different strategies for participating in and regulating the private security service sector. High-quality reports are also produced by journalists, advocates, and academics. In the reports part of this section, documents are organized by type of issuing entity, and further therein by the authoring agency. For academic articles and books, works are categorized by author last name.
